Why I chose to create the Spring Basketball Academy was because I noticed incoming high school players, while talented, had some surprising gaps in their basketball knowledge. So it goes with changing nature of childhood and school and sports and lifestyles. While I am happy to instruct raw talent at a high school level, how much better would it be to utilize the middle school years to become a confident and knowledgeable young player. I want the freshmen joining me ready to make a splash! The only way to ensure middle schoolers were exposed to what I felt they should know before freshman year was if I taught them myself. It is my hope the players participating in my Spring Academy will :
thoroughly understand the game
speak fluent basketball terminology
run fast breaks
rebound with strength
shoot with consistent good form
translate playbook to gameplay in real time.
clearly acknowledge their own strengths and weaknesses and their next steps
develop the attitude it takes to battle it out and win
Hope to see a good group of young men in the Class of ‘23. School is in session and I’m your coach and teacher.
Sincerely, Coach Jason Hasson
Lessons.
Out on the court, Coach Jason Hasson will lead the group through a comprehensive lesson plan of basketball skills, rules, and x’s and o’s. Over the course of 10 lessons*, students will fill in the gaps of their own basketball knowledge, get personal instruction, and drill the skills they need to improve.
Games.
Real games. Real coaches. Real referees. We put our knowledge to the test in double headers each week for a total of 8 games*. After observing the participants in the first 3 practices, Coach Hasson will roster the teams to create competitive match-ups while trying to honor teammate requests.
